THEY’RE REALLY MY DADDY’S
These are my favorite baked beans! This is actually my Dad’s recipe. The problem is though that my Dad would make them differently every single time he made them. HOWEVER, on the day he taught me how to make them, they turned out just like this—and so, I recorded the recipe. My Dad has long since left this earth, but I still like making these beans exactly the same way he made them all those years ago, on THAT particular day, because he was always adding a new ingredient every time he made beans.
THE SECRET INGREDIENT
The secret ingredient to these baked beans is the Jimmy Dean Italian Breakfast Sausage. Everyone loves it, but no one can figure out what kind of meat it is. They always say, “What did you put in these beans?” Because the answer to that question can go either way. I always know which way it went when they ask for the recipe. There are lots of ways to jazz up your baked beans, but this simple recipe always does the trick, and this version was always my personal favorite, and a crowd pleaser!
JENNY’S BAKED BEANS—THEY’RE REALLY MY DADDY’S
6 Cans Baked Beans, 15 oz (I like the Bush’s Brand Brown Sugar Flavor)
1 Roll Jimmy Dean Sausage, Italian
1 Green Bell Pepper, diced
1 Vidella Onion, diced
1/2 to 3/4 cup Brown Sugar (depending on preferred sweetness)
1 1/2 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup of your favorite BBQ sauce
- In a large pot, sauté sausage until almost done, then add bell pepper and onion.
- Cook sausage, pepper, and onion in pan until done, and then add 6 cans of beans to sausage mixture.
- Then add brown sugar, vinegar, and BBQ sauce to beans. Heat until warmed through and bubbly.
- Pour into a deep dish casserole dish. Keep warm in the oven until ready to serve.
