Creating the MOOD
When I decorate, I try to create a mood. For me, I prefer Happy Halloween versus Horror and Gore Halloween. Most of my decorations feel like something you would see in a movie like Hocus Pocus or Goosebumps. I love the feel of “Happy Halloween” if you get what I’m saying. Flying bats, witches, October quotes, etc.–are all ways to set the mood in your home. Here are some great ideas for decorating your entry this October!
Witch Legs
I know you’ve seen these around town. They sell them at all the local craft stores, and even at Walmart. They are witch legs with curved witch boots made out of styrofoam. They are the cute little things. You can use them in wreaths or flower arrangements. For me, I added them to a vase filled with tissue paper and grocery sacks. This vase is a little deceiving. It isn’t actually filled with candy corn, but rather that’s just a piece of scrapbook paper I used instead. Make sure you take a closer look at this arrangement. It’s an easy creation to add to your Halloween Home Decor.
Banners & Garland
You know how much I love banners! I just can’t get enough. This banner comes to you directly from The Little White Loft Company. I’m fortunate enough to be good friends with these bloggers. Also, check out my new yarn, ball garland. Isn’t it beautiful. I purchased it, but I am sure it would be fairly simply to make. It’s light weight, and so I assume the yarn is wrapped around styrofoam balls. I purchased this at Joann, but I am sure it could be purchased anywhere. Also, don’t forget that I offer a free printable “All Hallows Eve” Banner on my blog! You can find that HERE.
Paper Wall Bats & Flying Crows
These are super fun! I cut these on my silhouette cameo machine, but you could very easily purchase them at various craft stores. Also, it totally changes decor to add a perched crow or owl to your fall decorations. You can’t go wrong with these. They make the scene feel life like.
DIY Skeleton Wreath
This is still one of my favorite projects. It’s such a fun and crazy Halloween Wreath. I used a dollar tree skeleton and the top hat was also hand made. You can find a tutorial for the wreath HERE, which also includes a pattern and instructions for making the glittery top hat.
A Witch Dress on a Dress Form
This is a costume that I made several years ago. I used my old duct tape dress form to display it. You can read about both in this article, HERE.
Halloween Quotes
If haven’t had a chance to check out my children’s book, “Alora, The Birth of a Good Witch” you really should. It’s a wonderful Halloween children’s book that is available for free in a video version on my blog. The book was written and illustrated by me. It’s been an amazing project! My hope is to have hard copies available for purchase by next year sometime.
Witch Boots with a little Bling
Aren’t these the cutest shoes you have ever seen. I bought them on Target.com, but I added a little bling to mine. I found some rhinestone broaches to add to give them a little glitz and bling…and YES, these shoes are wearable. I plan to wear them with my witch dress. For now, they are just on display.
